Being relatively naive to the study of art and of archives, I thought that the librarian at the Walker Art Center would have an index or bibliography made of the archives. Unfortunately, I was mistaken.
After a correspondence I with Rosemary Furtak, the librarian at the Walker Art Center, I realized my mistake. However, Rosemary was a great help. She recommended a few sources that I should check out, and clarified a few things for me; she said that I probably already have many of the clippings that she has stored in the Spoonbridge and Cherry vertical file. She gave me the name of Jill Vetter, the WAC's archivist, though warned me that Ms.Vetter only worked ten hours a week, making her difficult to get a hold of.
Although I was still unable to get the contents of the archives, Ms. Vetter told me that Claes Oldenburg kept a an extensive collection himself (something I picked on from the reading myself), but that much of th archives consisted of stacks of release forms. Luckily, she and the other folks at the Walker Art Center have done an amazing job of documenting the acquistion and construction of Spoonbridge and Cherry in the form of video, photographs, and text.
